A creative alternative to a wedding guestbook

Wedding guestbooks are a longstanding tradition and one that I am firmly on board with. I adored reading the messages guests had left for me and my husband on our wedding day and we have since turned the guestbook into a ‘wedding scrapbook’ complete with stationery samples, our speeches, even a handkerchief my husband bought especially to wipe away my (happy) tears on our wedding day. Another popular idea is to have a polaroid camera next to your guestbook for guests to take a quick snap alongside their message. All of these are lovely.

However, I realised that unless I actively get out my wedding guestbook and sit and read the messages time and time again, it becomes a bit of a forgotten element from the day. This is where the canvas guestbook idea from Jessica Slack, a Liverpool-based colour loving artist comes in. Jess explains the process behind this in more detail in her own blog, but I thought it was a brilliant idea. Jess will paint a canvas for you, using your preferred colours, that guests can then write messages on during the wedding day. As such, the guestbook becomes a piece of living art during the wedding and guests are immersed in the artistic process.

After your wedding you are then left with a piece of artwork to have displayed in your home forever more. No longer will you have to dig out an old book, rather the lovely messages left to you by your guests are on display every day, reminding you of the love that filled your wedding day.
